Greetings BAHS Families and Community!

It is hard to believe that the first half of the year is gone. I'm so enjoying working with our very talented and dedicated staff, the sweetest, smartest and yet most modest student body ever, and our supportive and involved families and community members.  I'm also enjoying an early morning swim most days --  there are still plenty of lanes open for folks who'd like to join in the fun from 6 - 7 am!

Our school goals for the year have been to:
  1.  increase student engagement, investment and achievement
  2.  to revitalize our professional learning culture.
Toward that end we are doing a book study and focusing our professionals days on those instructional strategies that research shows helps students become engaged as Leaders of their Own Learning.  We hope to transform our school into its very best self through utilizing student-engaged assessment strategies that put students where they should be: in the drivers' seats of their own educational journeys. Our
measurable goal for the year is to increase by at least 10% (from 68.5% to 78.5%) the number of students passing all subjects and meeting all standards during the 2016-2017 school year, compared with the last school year.  We are concentrating on that aspect of the new state law around teacher-and-principal professional growth and evaluation (a model known as T-PEPG and P-PEPG) that focuses on student-engagement and assessment.

We are also working hard on Accreditation.  Toward that end we would ask all families to take the Endicott Survey which is online a link to which is included here.  It can also be found on the RSU 71 and BAHS webpages.  Your feedback is important to us, so please do take a few minutes to complete the survey.

As usual I hope you will feel free to stop by, email, call, make an appointment or see me when you're here for a student game, meet or event.   I'm happy to discuss ideas, receive feedback, answer questions or be helpful in whatever way is needed. Warm wishes for endurance during the rest of our Maine winter!   My contact info: mamclean@rsu71.org; 338-1790 extension 303.

Sincerely,
Mary Alice
