The Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program since 1947.  Each year, more than 50,000 high school students compete for more than $2.3 million in scholarships and incentives. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme was, Why Veterans are Important.

Belfast Area High School senior, Maylinda Boynton, competed in the scholarship program this year and went as far as the state level in competition. She won at the Post and District level, receiving several gifts, certificates, and over $600. in scholarship money.  Maylinda also attended the State banquet with 9 other individuals from 9 districts around the state. Congratulations Maylinda on a job well done!
