Call for Volunteers

School-Based Mentor Volunteers Needed!

Big Brothers-Big Sisters issues a call to action to the students of Belfast Area High School. Students have the opportunity to volunteer and make a positive impact on local youth by serving as mentors to elementary school students.

School-Based Mentoring is a Big Brothers-Big Sisters program in which School-Based Mentors (high school Bigs) spend time with elementary school students (Littles). The Bigs & Littles spend time enjoying games and activities together as they build a one-on-one relationship. The matches meet once a week for about an hour after school at Edna Drinkwater Elementary School (change from last year!). Big Brothers-Big Sisters provides a setting and equipment (games, craft supplies, sports equipment, etc.) and snacks for the matches as well as on-site support. Volunteers should plan to commit to participating for the entire school year.

Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Mid-Maine changes the lives of 560 children facing adversity in Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset, and Waldo Counties for the better, forever by providing strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships. Children in our program have higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, avoid risky behaviors, and achieve educational success.

Interested students can see Mr. Hart in the Jobs for Maine Graduates classroom to learn more and to pick up an application. Applications are due back to Mr. Hart by Friday September 27th. Contact BBBS at 593-0380 or info@bbbsmidmaine.org or visit our website www.bbbsmidmaine.org for more information.
