Science and Engineering Club at BAHS News

Three teams comprise the BAHS Science and Engineering Club. Information about this year's competitions are described below:

The Belfast Area High School Ocean Sciences Bowl team competed in the annual Noreaster Bowl at the University of New England
on Feb. 23. One of the two Belfast teams finished 4th out of 15 teams. Both teams were awarded a kayaking field trip to the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Greenland, NH.

The Belfast Area High School Science Olympiad Team finished 9th out of 18 teams at the state Science Olympiad competition at USM-Gorham on Saturday, April 6. Fifteen students competed in 23 science and engineering events throughout the day. Several individuals won medals in their events, including the following:
Romy Carpenter and Hannah Greene- 3rd place in Rocks and Minerals
Maria Swebilius and Geneva Bielenberg- 3rd place in Remore Sensing
Maria Swebilius and Brandon Richards- 3rd place in Thermodynamics
Brandon Richards and Patrick Groening- 2nd place in Gravity Vehicle

The Belfast Area High School Envirothon Team competed on May 2 in the mid-coast regional Envirothon competition at Good-Will Hinckley field in Fairfield, ME.  The team finished 6th out of 16 teams. Members include Michelle McIntire, Evan Schweikert, Kelsey Grass, and Stephen Colby.
