The semester elective course, Marine Studies, culminated with student presentations of their research projects. These projects ranged from summarizing current marine science research to engineering projects that included the construction of an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV), and a motorized garbage collector to be deployed in Belfast Harbor. Students also collected and identified local marine plankton with a compound microscope, as well as presented research on effects of aquaculture and climate change on lobster distributions in the Gulf of Maine. The Marine Studies course, co-taught by history teacher Mr. Lagerbom and science teacher Mr. Thomas, will be offered again in the fall of 2019.
