Four teams from Belfast Area High School competed in the 2017 regional Envirothon competition at Kents Hill School on May 18. The mission of the North American Envirothon is to develop knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated citizens who have an understanding of natural resources and are willing and prepared to work towards achieving and maintaining a balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment. Students completed written tests and field identifications in areas of forestry, wildlife, aquatics, and soils. Students also conducted research, and made a poster and oral presentation about agricultural soil and water conservation.
One of the Belfast teams placed 4th out of 20 teams at regionals and competed in the state competition on May 25. They again competed in each event and finished 4th overall out of 20 teams from around the state. Congratulations to these future environmental stewards.
