Both of this year’s Envirothon teams qualified for the state competition by taking 1st and 2nd place overall at the regional competition on May 21 at Lake George Regional Park in Skowhegan, Maine. One of the teams finished 1st in soils and forestry, while the other team finished first in wildlife, aquatic science, and the current issue event. This year’s current issue, "Agriculture and the Environment:  Knowledge & Technology to Feed the World" required students to plan how to sustainably manage a hypothetical 450-acre farm. Students worked many hours to construct posters which were presented at the competition.  The state competition takes place on May 31 at the Sportsman’s Alliance in Augusta.

The mission of the North American Envirothon is to develop knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated citizens who have an understanding of natural resources and are willing and prepared to work towards achieving and maintaining a balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment.
